Krisitian Gjerstad
Kristian is a musician/producer making music in various genres most notably jazz and downtempo. Having come from a musical family he was exposed at a very early age to an eclectic range of music including Jazz, folk, and hiphop amongst others. He was always encouraged to pick up instruments and express himself through the world of music and sound. After experimenting with various instruments it wasn’t until at the age of 12 Kristian was introduced to the turntable by his brother that he decided this was what he felt was the right musical expression for him.
At the age of 20 he reached the DMC (Dj Mixing Championships) UK final after entering for the first time and a succession of guest experiences and live shows followed this success most notably appearing on the legendary John Peel show, and appearances with the scratch perverts amongst others. Following this Kristian moved into the role of making his own music with the turntable as the focal point, and co produced a hiphop album under the name ‘Live Earth’ which created a healthy buzz around the Manchester scene, with quotes from Fat City Records saying the album was ‘A breath of fresh air’ and Piccadilly Records putting it in their online top ten albums of the month.
Using the turntable, various instruments, and live musicians you get the marriage between old dusty jazz, classical, and hiphop influences running throughout his works giving it an appeal which will be accepted across the board.
